HUMAN DEVELOPMENT 320
“Human Developmental Neuropsychology”
Professor Elise Temple

Human Neuropsychology explores the relationship between the brain and mind with a focus on the effects of disease, disorder, and injury. Some topics include learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, Tourette’s syndrome, Doen’s syndrome, mental illness, Altzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and epilepsy.

Course Design The course consists of lecture and “interactive” sessions, which include extensive work in small groups, and emphasizes analytical and critical reading as well as oral and written communication skills. Students submit weekly discussion questions based on readings, and authors of chosen questions facilitate discussion in that class. Students also write two research article summaries and either four short papers or one long paper on specific diseases or disorders, based on professional research literature. Extra credit projects include participation in research or interviews with individuals affected by disorders. There are also three exams.
