Instructions

Registration

All students who wish to participate in the New York Recruiting Consortium must register through the NYRC Web site.

  • Complete all fields in the “My Profile” section. Make sure that you change your password.
  • Attend the October 29th orientation session at 4:35 p.m. in Kaufmann Auditorium, Goldwin Smith
  • If you have further questions that are not addressed in the information below, please contact Arts and Sciences Career Services, at 255-4166, as_careers@cornell.edu, or stop by G55 Goldwin Smith Hall.

Submitting Resumes

  • Review the Employer Job Descriptions under “Events Calendar” in the NYRC Web site and decide whether or not to submit a resume for a particular interview schedule. Read the qualifications, especially Visa status, carefully.
  • Check the Web site on a regular basis for new employers.
  • Only apply for interviews if you can reasonably guarantee that you will be able to interview with these employers in New York City on Friday, January 11, 2008.
  • Application materials need to be uploaded in the “Resumes and Documents” section of the Web site in order for you to submit your applications to employers.
  • Submitted all required application materials through the Web site by the resume submission deadline. Application submissions must include all materials requested by the employer. Incomplete applications will not be submitted by the system.

If the application requirements require the submission of a college transcript, you will need to create an unofficial transcript

How to Prepare an Unofficial Transcript

  • On Bear Access, click on Student Services folder
  • Click on JTF folder (aka Just The Facts)
  • Enter your net id and password
  • Click on grades on left-side bar. Note: If side bar is not bolded, press Continue at the bottom of your screen; then click on Grades again
  • Select All Grades
  • Copy and paste your grades into a Microsoft Word document and save it. This is not an official transcript. Note: Make sure you check over the document carefully, as you may need to reformat the information to fit on the page properly.
  • Note: You absolutely MUST NOT alter your grades. Many employers will ask you for an official transcript later. Falsifying any information you submit for recruiting programs is grounds for disqualification from access to Cornell University services, including on-campus recruiting. Additionally, companies have called us to let us know that offers were rescinded because of false documentation.
  • Upload your transcript document into the NYRC Web site

Employer-Selected Interview

Students who are selected for interviews or as alternates will be notified by e-mail in early December. If you do not receive an e-mail then you are not selected for an interview. Make sure you are checking your email regularly after November 28, 2007.

Scheduling Interview Times

Once you receive an e-mail notification of the interview(s) for which you have been selected, you may sign up for interviews through the NYRC Web site. Interviews sign-ups begin on November 29th. The sign-up deadline for pre-selected students is to be announced. After this date, unfilled interview times will be given to students who are selected as alternates. Alternate sign-ups are handled by the NYRC Coordinator. Record the interview date and time in your planner for future reference!

Policies

If you are applying for a position, it is assumed you will accept an interview offer and be able to travel to NYC to interview. Do not apply for any positions if this is not the case.

The Cornell Career Services No-Show Policy is in effect for the New York Recruiting Consortium.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why may only seniors from the Arts and Sciences and Human Ecology participate?

A: The New York Recruiting Consortium was specifically developed for liberal arts schools because the employers had indicated an interest in interviewing graduating students with a liberal arts background. The Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Human Ecology have made the arrangements to participate in the annual consortium with the participating liberal arts colleges.

Q: Where are the interviews held?

A: Interviews are held in New York City at the AMA Executive Conference Center, 1601 Broadway (Broadway at 48 th Street). Maps and specific directions will be provided for students selected for interviews

Q: How will I be notified about an interview?

A: You will be notified by e-mail only.

Q: How do I register?

A: You should have received an email from Arts and Sciences Career Services with your username and password. Attend the October 29th orientation. After logging into the NYRC Web site, complete the “My Profile” section.

Q: I just learned of NYRC, but I missed the orientation session on October 29 th. Can I still participate?

A: Yes. Just read these instructions carefully, register and apply. If you have questions or experience problems please contact Diane Miller, Cornell’s NYRC Coordinator.

Q: How do I find out which employers are participating in NYRC?

A: A list of participating employers and their job descriptions is available under the “Events Calendar” section of the Web site. This list is subject to change as we receive updated information from employers. Please refer to the job descriptions regularly prior to the consortium for the most up-to-date information.

Q: How do I submit a resume and cover letter?

A: Application materials are submitted electronically through the NYRC Web site. Please read the employers descriptions carefully for details on the positions available and required application materials. The application deadline is November 10, 2007

Q: Some of the employers will also be recruiting at Cornell Career Services during on-campus recruiting. If I have submitted a resume to an employer for on-campus recruiting, may I also submit a resume for the New York Recruiting Consortium?

A: If you have already interviewed with an employer or know you will be interviewing on-campus, you should not interview twice. Some of the employers are interviewing for different positions at the New York Recruiting Consortium, so if you are selected to interview for different positions at different times you may go to both interviews. You should also decline an interview if you discover you have been selected by the same employer for the same position more than once.

Q: I’ve just accepted a job offer, but I submitted applications to NYRC. What to I do?

A: If the Resume Submission Deadline has not passed, remove your applications submissions in the NYRC Web site. If the deadline has passed, please contact Diane Miller, Cornell’s NYRC Coordinator, as soon as possible.
