To all new students:

Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences. On behalf of both the faculty and the advising staff, I want you to know that we are as eager to see you in August as you are to get here. I encourage you to think of your four years in the college as a time of great intellectual exploration. The resources of this university are enormous. You should be bold in thinking about the opportunities for research and independent study with faculty members, or planning a semester or two of study abroad, or any of the other wonderful experiences that can become part of your curriculum. Our students go on to prestigious graduate programs, advanced professional degrees, or directly into challenging and rewarding careers in all kinds of fields, so enjoy these next four years as a time for intellectual and personal growth. Develop your true interests and let that lead you to your life after Cornell.
