Schedule of Speakers

Click here for a schedule of the weekend's events. We also hope to have a full roster of poster presentations which will be up for view throughout the conference. Abstracts of speakers' talks will be available online as soon as we have received them all.

Conference whereabouts

The conference will be held in Cornell's Biotechnology Building, (the red dot on the map) on Garden Ave. sandwiched between Teagle Hall and Comstock Hall. Comstock Hall sits right in front of Biotech from the perspective of Garden Ave. The only weekend entrance is on the west side (facing Comstock) of the building, and you'll be walking directly into the atrium where we'll be having our coffee breaks. The conference room is adjacent to the atrium, so you can't miss it.

Friday evening's welcome and Keynote lecture will be at 6:00pm in the Hollis E. Cornell auditorium in Goldwin Smith Hall on the Arts Quad (green dot on map). Our laboratory (in the basement of Goldwin Smith, room B-48) will be open on Friday as a general meeting ground for folks who arrive early.

Transportation and parking

For directions to campus, please visit Cornell's version of map quest. This page also has links to the Cornell map page, which has information about the various construction projects that might hinder your driving plans.

Parking on campus is severely limited on Friday before 5:00 p.m. After this time, most central campus lots are free to the public. We have been advised to invite visitors arriving before 5:00 to stop at one of the four information booths to acquire a visitor's parking pass ($6.00 for 4 hours), which will allow you to park in one of the few Visitor's lots on campus. The closest lot to Goldwin Smith Hall is above the Andrew Dickson White House, just across East Ave (near blue dot on map linked above).

Second place is a tie between Risley Lot (across the Thurston Ave. bridge) and on-street parking on Garden Ave. At this time (mid-summer) it appears that access to the Toboggan Lodge parking area is available only from the east due to the bridge construction project. So, if you know campus and are not afraid of this approach, that is reasonably close.

Metered parking exists, but at a premium. The Parking garage on Hoy Road has a few meters, as does the lot in front of Alumni House and another behind Willard Straight.

Fortunately, parking on Saturday morning or Sunday shouldn't be much trouble as most on-campus spaces are free for the taking. There is, however, a football game on Saturday afternoon at Schoellkopf, which is right across the road, and if you are arriving at that time it would be wise to plan to park farther away and hike it to Biotech.

Guests staying at the Statler Hotel (pink dot on map) will be able to park their cars in their guest parking lot. Statler is within easy walking distance to Biotech, Goldwin Smith, and the Big Red Barn. Folks needing assistance in getting around should contact the lab so that we may plan ahead.

The Ithaca Transit system (TCAT) covers the Cornell campus and all of Ithaca rather thoroughly. For more information on which bus to take where, please visit the TCAT webpage for schedules, fares, etc.

Lodging Ideas

Below is a list of hotels not too far from campus. We have reserved a block of rooms downtown at the Holiday Inn Ithaca--Downtown, near the Commons (607/272-1000). The group confirmation code for reserving a room is DDC, and the deadline for booking is 3 October 2006. The room price is $140/night for a double with two queen beds.

Hotels Near Campus (not an exhaustive list):

If you would prefer something slightly less expensive, send me an email and we can try to find something for you. Motels and Bed & Breakfasts exist aplenty.

Registration

All of the lectures are free and open to the public; food, on the other hand.... And since good food is integral to a good conference, the registration for the entire weekend's activities will cost $140. Separate events can certainly be attended with the costs broken down appropriately. Please print out the attendance form (pdf link below) and send it in so that we know you are coming. A check written to the project with "Conference Registration" on the memo line will be fine.

For any and all questions, please email Mary Jaye Bruce at the Lab. We look forward to seeing you in November!
