During the academic year 2005-6 the VRG read Richard Marsh, The Beetle (1897), Walter Pater, Marius the Epicurean (1885), Thomas Hardy, The Woodlanders (1887), Mary Elizabeth Braddon The Doctor's Wife (1864), and Charles Dickens Edwin Drood (1870).
This summer (2006) we will be reading Henry James, The Portrait of a Lady (1880-1), Robert Louis Stevenson, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1866), Charlotte Bronte Shirley (1849), George Gissing New Grub Street (1891), Olive Schreiner The Story of an African Farm (1883), and Charles Dickens Our Mutual Friend (1865).
