Study Abroad

As an English major, you are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities for study abroad, which are available through the Cornell Abroad Program and the College of Arts and Sciences Abroad Program.

notebookStudy abroad provides a greater understanding of the world's peoples, cultures, economies, and environments, and prepares graduates for the challenges of international citizenship in the 21st century. It can give you an enriching intellectual experience, and a deeper understanding of yourself. Well-chosen and well-planned study abroad contributes a global or comparative dimension to your chosen field, enhances critical thinking and communications skills, and provides first-hand immersion in and appreciation of another culture. Focused academic work in the right institution abroad can be excellent preparation for advanced study or honors work in your final semesters at Cornell, and lead to a career with a global component.

The Director of Undergraduate Studies in the English Department must approve the study abroad application, and will determine credit for the major.
