Undergraduate Activities
The English Club—a group organized by and for English Majors—sponsors regular meetings each semester.
In addition, English majors are engaged in many kinds of extracurricular activities. Some write for newspapers like the Cornell Daily Sun. Others edit or contribute to student-run literary magazines such as Rainy Day, The Risley Review, or The Quad and take part in readings, forums, and other literary events. The editorial offices of Epoch, Cornell’s internationally distributed literary magazine, are located close to the English Department’s main offices in Goldwin Smith Hall and provide a congenial meeting place for both undergraduate and graduate students with a special interest in contemporary writing and the arts. English majors frequently appear in or direct theatrical performances such as those those offered by the Red Bull Players and Risley Theater. Informal social events offer an opportunity for English majors to meet outside class, share refreshments and conversation, enjoy presentations by former English majors visiting campus, and chat with members of the faculty. The Department is also supportive of student’s collective initiatives in proposing social events or organizing clubs.
