Requirements
- Entry requirement: completion of any two History courses excluding Freshman Writing Seminars.
- Take 9 history department courses (for either 3 or 4 credits each), completing all of them with a grade of C or better.
- Of the total 9 courses:
- 4 must be outside of United States history; and
-
3 must be in history before 1800. (Courses that fulfill the Arts & Sciences historical breath requirement do not necessarily fulfill the History pre-1800 requirement.)
Pre-1800 & Outside U.S. History Courses
-
History majors will be required to take two seminar courses, one of which must be a 4000-level seminar and one of which may be either a 2000-level or a 4000-level seminar.
Note: a single course may count to fulfill more than one of the requirements. For example, a course in medieval European history would count as both a course in history before 1800 and as a course outside of American History.
Starting Fall 2008, HIST 4000, 4001, and 4002 may not be used to fulfill the 4000-level seminar requirement. Service-learning 4000-level courses may not be used to fulfill the 4000-level seminar requirement.
