Elliot Shapiro

Elliot Shapiro graduated from Vassar College and received his PhD in English from the University of Rochester, where he focused on Contemporary American literature and American film. At Rochester he was also a Writing Tutor and Study Skills Counselor. At Cornell he has taught in the Writing Workshop and the English department. He taught for several summers in Cornell's Pre-Freshman Summer Program and in comparable programs at the University of Rochester and Middlebury College. He currently directs the Faculty Seminar in Writing Instruction and the training course for Graduate Student Instructors of First Year Writing Seminars. With Keith Hjortshoj he co-directs the Writing in the Majors program. His academic publications and presentations focus on American literature and film; the teaching of writing; collaboration; academic integrity; and grading.
