Janine Nieroda
Janine Nieroda has a BA in Socio-cultural Anthropology from Binghamton
University and an MA in Teaching English with an elective concentration in
international development from Columbia University.
She has been teaching English, literature, cultural studies, and
creative writing on the secondary level for the past seven years in
Manhattan, Harlem, the Bronx, and Syracuse. Janine is currently pursuing
another master's degree in City and Regional Planning at Cornell.
In conjunction with her studies on international education development,
she has recently started a participatory community development project in Ghana
which will include the creation of an organic farm and primary school in a small village in the Volta Lake region. She is also developing a community service organization for high school students at Fayetteville Manlius High School in Syracuse, NY called Ghana Bound, which will engage students in cultural studies and service work the village in Ghana.
Janine’s other areas of interest are cultural literacy, bilingual studies, and equal access to education in rural and urban areas with a regional focus in Latin America and New York.
