BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Mary Gilliland is an internationally published poet whose awards include Stanley Kunitz Fellowship at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown and an Ann Stanford Prize. Recent poetry can be found in AGNI Online, Notre Dame Review, Passages North, Poetry, Seneca Review, Stand, and other literary journals. She began teaching writing at Cornell in 1978 and retired from the John S. Knight Institute for Writing in the Disciplines in 2007. Among her courses were the expository writing 'America Dreaming,' and the first interdisciplinary FWS, 'Ecosystems & Ego Systems,' which she developed in the early '80's and taught at Cornell's branch campus in Doha in 2006. From 1991 she directed the Writing Walk-In Service and composed The Writing Walk-In Service Handbook, and in 2007 developed the Knight Institute Peer Mentor in Writing program.
