Ziad Fahmy (Ph.D., History, University of Arizona, 2007) is an Assistant
Professor of Modern Middle East History. His interests include nationalism and identity in the modern Middle East, colloquial Arabic mass-culture, and issues of diglossia in the Arab World. He is currently working on a book manuscript based on his dissertation, tentatively titled: Making Egyptians: Colloquial Culture, Media Capitalism, and the Growth of National Identity, 1870-1919.
