Cornell International Conducting Masterclasses 2011

Seven days of classes, November 14-20, 2012. Participants should plan on committing to the entire duration of the class. Date of arrival in Ithaca will be the afternoon of November 14 and departure on November 21.

The workshop will include score study sessions, conducting sessions with two pianos, conducting sessions and performance with Cornell Chamber orchestra, and video review. All conducting sessions will be videotaped.  

Four conductors will be chosen to be active conductors and up to twelve additional conductors will be selected to be auditors.

Active Participants will be given 65 minutes of podium time with the orchestra and 80 minutes of podium time in sessions with two pianos (4 sessions).  Active participants will also conduct the masterclass repertoire in concert with the Cornell Chamber Orchestra.  All class members will be able to observe Johannes Schlaefli work with the Cornell Symphony Orchestra in rehearsal and performance.

Application fee: $25

Participant fee: $450

Auditor fee: $100

Thanks to a grant from the Cornell concert committee we are able to offer a low tuition.
The participant fee or auditor fee does NOT include travel, housing, or meals.

The workshop fees are due upon notice of acceptance to the workshop. The fee will act as a deposit to reserve each Participant/Auditor’s place in the workshop. Deposits will be refunded up to four weeks before the first day of the workshop. After that date, fees will be refunded only if the withdrawing applicant’s place in the workshop is filled by another Participant/Auditor. Information about travel and housing will be sent to all attendees along with their acceptance notification.

Application Deadline: October 1, 2011 (Receipt Date).

Payment Deadline: Tuition is due upon notification of acceptance. (around October 25, 2011)

In addition to this form, please send a DVD (NTSC format)  or link to an online video (youtube or vimeo, etc.) of representative performances and rehearsals no longer than 15 minutes to the following address by October 1, 2011 (Receipt Date). Application fee must be received by this date as well.  All checks should be made payable to Cornell Music department.
