Fall 2013 Audition info is now live, including audition excerpts

Complete the audition form online in order to be assigned an audition time. All new and old members must audition for a spot in one of the two Cornell orchestras.

Jesse Jones wins Rome Prize Competition

Jesse Jones who wrote "Focus" for the Cornell Symphony Orchestra for our March concert, is one of 30 winners of the 116th annual Rome Prize Competition held by the American Academy in Rome. Here is a link to the news.

Ireland Tour, January 2012

The Cornell Orchestras are planning a possible tour to Dublin, Ireland this past January 9-16. A photo link to the international tour. Thanks Dubliners for a a great collaboration.

Alumni News

On August 13, Hannah de Kleer (2011 - Viola) married Stephen Brown, a 2011 graduate of Cornell Law School. They now live together in Savannah, GA, where Hannah is a 9th grade math teacher at Woodville-Tompkins Career & Technical Hish School and Stephen is an associate at Bouhan, Williams & Levy.

The CSO is proud of all our alumni, and we invite them to keep in contact and submit stories about all the amazing things they've been up to since leaving the hill!

Preliminary information concerning audtions for the Fall 2011 semester have been posted on the auditions page. All new and returning members must re-audition, so please take a moment to sign-up now!

Orchestras Awarded ASCAP "Adventurous Programming" Award

The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers and the League of American Orchestras awarded the Cornell Orchestras and their director, Chris Kim, an award in "Adventurous Programming" at a conference in Minneapolis this month. This marks the fourth year in a row that the Cornell Orchestras have received this award, which is given out to "...[insure] that concert music in America remains relevant, vibrant, and alive." Congratulations to Chris and the Cornell musicians who performed innovative music this past year!

Leon Fleisher holds Beethoven Concerto Project at Cornell

The distinguished American conductor and pianist, Leon Fleisher, will rehearse and conduct the 5 Beethoven Piano concertos this week with the Cornell University and Ithaca College Orchestras as part of the Cornell Concert Series. The five pieces will be performed over two concerts scheduled for Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8.. Tickets for both concerts are available for purchase online or at the door. Performing with Leon Fleisher and the Cornell and Ithaca orchestras will be Cornell faculty members Miri Yampolsky and Xak Bjerken, Cornell students Stefania Neonato (D.M.A.) and Daniel Anastasio (Senior), and Spanish pianist Claudio Martinez-Mehner.
