The orchestra participated in Into The Streets, a university-wide community service project to help the Ithaca community. Members of the orchestra cleaned up trash on a particularly rainy Saturday afternoon.

The Orchestra Board organized an orchestra social event, Mafia Day. The orchestra came together for an afternoon of Mafia and food in Lincoln B20.

The CSO and CCO presented a joint concert on March 1, 2009, in Bailey Hall. The CCO performed W.A. Mozart's Eine Kleine Nacht Musik with Joseph Lin and Alfred Schnittke's Piano Concerto, with Xak Bjerken. The CSO performed Alberto Ginastera's Pampeana No. 2, with Adrianne Ngam, cello, winner of the 2009 Concerto Competition, and Richard Strauss's Death and Transfiguration.

The CSO and ICSO performed a Halloween-theme concert, including Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain, Saint-Saens's Danse Macabre, and Williams's Duel of the Fates from Star Wars, with all members in costume.
