Electronic submission is not only allowed, but encouraged. Any format except TeX/LaTeX will do. Attach the file to e-mail addressed to phil-review@cornell.edu.
If you submit a paper manuscript, please send only one copy. The manuscript will not be returned unless you provide an envelope and sufficient postage.
Manuscripts submitted by members of the Cornell department are accepted only on the recommendation of an outside referee.
Manuscripts must meet the following requirements before they will be considered for publication:
Not previously published or under consideration
It is understood that manuscripts submitted to the Philosophical Review for consideration have not been published previously, in part or in whole, and are not simultaneously under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Prepared for blind review
- The author's name and institutional affiliation are not to appear, so described, in the manuscript.
- References to the author's own work must be cast in such a way that they do not reveal the identity of the manuscript's author. We recommend simply replacing the entire reference, including title and facts of publication, with an expression such as Author's article, Author's book, Author's book 2, etc.
- Acknowledgements that could allow a reader to deduce the author's identity must be removed for the initial review.
- Any prefatory or explanatory remarks intended for the editors or readers must also be given anonymously, not in the cover letter.
Properly formatted
- All text, including notes and extracted material (quotes, formulae), must be double-spaced. Because notes must be double-spaced, we recommend that they be gathered at the end of the text, rather than placed at the foot of the page. Manuscripts chosen for publication must eventually conform to The Chicago Manual of Style, 14th ed., but for the initial review any clear and consistent citation style is acceptable.
- All pages must be numbered and have margins of at least one inch on all sides.
