Lev., xx. 13: (Douai Transl.) + Glossa
Ordinaria (on "qui dormierit cum masculo"): "This sin is a wrong
against Nature, and so it is decreed that it be punished with death.
For spiritually he who is strong-minded is also masculine (masculus).
For he who is foremost in the virtues is named in the divine scripture "vir" (man). Let us beware to become
effeminate from evil words or actions, lest we are broken up with this
and die together. "
Rom., i. 26 + Glossa Ordinaria (interlinear): "First in the ardor of
the libido which is a passion of Nature and not to be named, later in
the act."
“All
abbesses deserve to die
Who order subject
nuns to lie
In dire distress & lonely bed
Only for giving love its head.
I speak who know, for I’ve been fed
For loving, long on stony bread.”
(12th century nun from Auxerre, translated Ann
Matter, The Boswell Thesis, 153)
