GENERAL INFORMATION |
The minor in Spanish is designed to give students proficiency in the oral and written language and to acquaint them with some of the many different Spanish and Latin American cultures. It has three components: a language and media core, a culture core, and an elective group of courses that allows students to tailor the minor to their individual interests and needs.
To apply for a concentration in Spanish Studies, please fill out this form (provided here as a pdf) and submit it to Callean Hile at the Administrative Office of the Department of Romance Studies, 303B Morrill Hall.
REQUIREMENTS |
In order to complete an undergraduate minor in Spanish, students must take at least five courses (a minimum of 15 credits) by selecting courses from the Minor (formerly Concentration) in Spanish Course List. Among these courses, the following are required:
- Either SPAN 3100 (Advanced Spanish Conversation and Pronunciation ) or SPAN 3110 (Advanced Spanish Writing Workshop).
- Either SPAN 2200 (Perspectives on Latin America) or SPAN 2230 (Perspectives on Spain). These introductory courses are interdisciplinary in nature and take advantage of faculty from around the campus, while regularly inviting colleagues with shared interests to offer lectures on topics of relevance. In this way, the minor will assist students in imagining a course of study that respects their varied intellectual interests while matching them with the relevant area of study.
- Three elective courses to be chosen in consultation with the concentrator’s advisor. Students are encouraged to include at least one course at the advanced 3000-4000 level.
- At least two (2) of these five courses should be taken at Cornell.
In addition, students will be asked to choose a minor advisor in consultation with the Director of Undergraduate Studies.
