Devin Stewart is associate professor of Arabic and Islamic studies and chair of the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies at Emory University. His specialties include Islamic law and legal theory, Shi'ite Islam, the Qur'an, and Arabic dialects.

He is the author of Islamic Legal Orthodoxy: Twelve Shiite Responses to the Sunni Legal System (Utah 1998) and is co-editing with Joseph Lowry and Shawkat Toorawa, Law and Education in Islam (Gibb Memorial Trust).
