Online Add/Drop

Students in Arts and Sciences

 What

You will add and drop most of your courses on-line via CourseEnroll, which you’ve been using for pre-enrolling on Just the Facts (JTF).  You can make most schedule changes online *With the exception of permission-only courses*.  You can add or drop courses from any computer with JTF, no waiting in line!

What's different from pre-enrollment?

·         When you successfully submit a course in Add/Drop you're not just requesting a change, you are in or out of that course.

·         Courses requiring permission to enroll in are excluded from on-line Add/Drop.  You will continue to add and drop them on the paper add/drop forms.

What's different from paper add/drop?

·         Most students in Arts and Sciences will be able to change their schedules without their advisor’s approval.  You are now responsible for consulting your advisor about changes in your course of study.

·         However, either your advisor or the college can set your record individually to require you to see your advisor before you can change your schedule in any way:  add or drop a course or sub-course, switch a section or lab, change a FWS, or change a grade or credit option.  You find out whether your record has been set by receiving the message on JTF, "Add/Drop not permitted. Please contact your Faculty Advisor."  Only your advisor or advising dean can re-set your record to allow you to make changes on-line.

Your faculty advisor may decide to set your record so that you must consult her/him before changing anything.  Most advisors will decide not to do this, because the choice is between a) you must see your advisor before changing your schedule in any way at all:  adding or dropping a course, section, or lab or changing a grading or credit-hour option and b) you may do any of those things without seeing your advisor first.  However, whether or not your advisor requires you to consult him/her, s/he does want you to consult about substantive changes; please do so.

While the College of Arts and Sciences will, as the default, allow students to change their schedules without formal approval from their advisors, it will require selected students to consult their advisors first, namely those who a) failed to pre-register (and presumably also failed to consult their advisors the previous semester), b) pre-enrolled but did not see their advisor (for example, students returning from leave or off-campus study), c) are of concern to the Committee on Academic Records, or d) are of concern to an advising dean.

How

How do I get started?

Download the new version of Just the Facts any time now.  Log-in and click on the Add/Drop button to check whether you need to see your advisor before you can add and drop courses. Your record may be set to require you to do this at any time.   See your advisor, if necessary.

How many courses can I add/drop?

Add/Drop allows you to enroll in up to five courses of 3 or more credits each semester and as many 1- and 2-credit and ROTC courses as you like.  Enrolling in more than five courses requires consultation with your advisor and an advising dean and adding via the familiar old paper add/drop forms (with advisor approval and departmental stamp).

What courses can I add/drop on-line?

You will be able to add and drop most courses on-line.  However, some instructors require permission to add and drop their courses; in these cases you will need to consult the instructor and after obtaining approval, add the course via a paper add/drop form (departmental stamp required).  The same is true if instructors or departments manage enrollments in particular courses by admitting students from wait-lists or by preferring majors or seniors or some other category.  You need to consult the instructor or department and add the course via a paper add/drop form.

Be sure to complete your adds and drops

As in pre-enrollment, you need to add all components of a course (i.e. labs and sections).  Please be sure you have add a section that goes with a particular lecture.  When you choose a lecture on CoursEnroll, the associated sub-courses will be displayed in a pop-up window.  You must choose one of those.
