Rule #1 for parents: Keep the lines of communication open
The level of student communication with parents varies by the student – and by the week or day. Some students will rarely call or email, others will telephone every day, and still others will communicate at some times but not others. No matter what your child’s communication style, it will be important for him or her to know that you offer your support and that you are there when he or she needs you. The relationship you have had will necessarily change and grow in new directions; it will always be the relationship between a parent and child, but it will also become a relationship between adults, older and younger.
