The Cradle Will Rock

Shut down amidst a storm of controversy on the day of its opening in 1938, The Cradle Will Rock is a Depression-era musical set in Steeltown, USA.  Author and composer Marc Blitzstein's music and lyrics have been called "a political weapon" and "an irreplaceable part of American musical theatre history."  The Cradle Will Rock was the first American musical recorded as a cast album and was a recent Tim Robbins film starring Hank Azaria and Susan Sarandon.

Highly stylized in nature, Indian temple dance juxtaposes powerful and energetic footwork (tandava) with sinuous feminine postures and movements (lasya) that have been handed down from teacher to disciple for thousands of years and embody the spirituality and culture of India.

Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's early life in London, this recent play by the talented Nicholas Wright portrays the transforming effect of love on the life of the young artist.  A mesmerizing story about passion and creativity.  Vincent in Brixton was a 2003 Best Play Tony Award nominee as well as the 2003 Olivier Award-winner for Best New Play.

 

 


Metamorphoses

Based on the epic works of Ovid, Metamorphoses retells the legends of King Midas, Cupid, and Aphrodite-but with a twist!  A 3600-gallon pool of water will be constructed in our Flexible Theatre and, through the elements of water and light, the ancient myths will be brought to new life with stunning simplicity and beauty.  A Tony and Obie Award-winning play, Metamorphoses is a unique mix of storytelling, music, comedy, and spectacle.
