Shut down amidst a storm of controversy on the day of its opening in 1938, The Cradle Will Rock is a Depression-era musical set in Steeltown, USA. Author and composer Marc Blitzstein's music and lyrics have been called "a political weapon" and "an irreplaceable part of American musical theatre history." The Cradle Will Rock was the first American musical recorded as a cast album and was a recent Tim Robbins film starring Hank Azaria and Susan Sarandon.
